『Lange Afstand Verkenners Rantsoen』とは、オランダ語で長距離偵察（用）糧食との意味で、アメリカ軍で言うところの『Long Range Patrol Ration』の事で、２４時間分の食料をコンパクトにまとめた戦闘糧食と言う事になります。
小型軽量化の為に、メインミールはフリーズドライ食を採用していますが、メインミール３食にスナック類やドリンク類が多数含まれている為に、かなり大型で重量もあるレーションになっています。
また、このＬＡＶレーションには幾つかのタイプがありますが、どのような基準なのかは不明です。

『Arctisch Rantsonen』はオランダ語で寒冷地用レーションを意味しており、アメリカ軍でいうところのＭＣＷと同様の役割を果たすレーションです。
手元の資料によると、このレーションは主に海兵隊で使用される事が多く、内容はＬＡＶレーションとほぼ変わらない物となっていますが、このＡｒｃｔｉｃレーションの方がボリュームがあるようです。
